The smartBuild Way:

Creating Smarter Build Sequences with AI in smartBuild

Defining build sequences for wire harness assembly can be complex, especially when each manufacturer has unique preferences, expertise, and processes. smartBuild uses AI to rapidly create custom build sequences that are tuned to how your team works.

Instead of manually defining every step, users can describe assembly preferences in natural language. Instructions such as pre-assembling connectors with more than a certain number of wires or routing wires from a specific connector first can be written exactly as a manufacturing expert would explain them.

Using these natural language inputs, AI generates a complete set of assembly instructions automatically. This removes the need for manual sequencing while still preserving full control over how the harness is built.

Refining and Customizing Assembly Instructions

AI in smartBuild is not limited to initial sequence generation. Users can continue to craft and refine build sequences by adjusting instruction order and grouping. This allows teams to fully customize smartBuild’s assembly animations to match their exact preferences.

By fine-tuning how instructions are grouped and ordered, manufacturers can ensure that build guidance aligns closely with their established processes and technician workflows.

The smartBuild Way - AI Build Sequence

High-Quality Instructions for Complex Harnesses

smartBuild uses AI to produce high-quality, fully customized instructions even for the most complicated wire harnesses. Complex assemblies can be broken down into clear, structured steps that remain consistent and easy to follow.

The result is a repeatable way to create detailed build instructions that reflect real-world manufacturing expertise.

Example AI Build and Test Sequence

smartBuild allows users to define sequencing logic using clear, written instructions. For example:

  • Place the splices first, starting with the largest and going to the smallest. All splice steps should be shown as one instruction.
  • Place every connector with more than six wires as a pre-assembly, where each wire in that connector is shown as one instruction.
  • Place these connectors from the most wires to the fewest wires.
  • Place the remaining wires going from the largest connector, by number of cavities, to the smallest connector.
  • Place all twisted pairs last, if any.

These instructions are interpreted by AI and converted into a complete, structured build sequence.

Applying Manufacturing Knowledge with AI

AI in smartBuild captures manufacturing preferences and applies them consistently across build sequences. By translating expert guidance into structured instructions, smartBuild helps teams create clear, customized assembly guidance without manual effort.

This approach makes it easier to generate and maintain build sequences that reflect how harnesses are actually assembled on the shop floor.
